Rotterdam – 16 December 2009 – The Eneco NRGSPOT, the green electricity charge spot for cars and trucks, has been fitted with a special plug socket that enables communication between the charge spot and the vehicle. This type is the first charge spot in the Netherlands that meets all the international requirements. As a result, the NRGSPOT has obtained the CE mark. This certification indicates that the entire end product has passed the required safety tests. These international standards based tests were performed by KEMA Quality.
The tests that the charge spot was submitted to included dust and water protection (IP), magnetic and electric fields (EM) and electrical safety.
The NRGSPOT has been fitted with a special plug socket that enables communication between the NRGSPOT and the vehicle to be charged. It is expected that this plug will become the European standard for charging electric vehicles.
The corresponding plug provides the user with an immobiliser system that prevents the car from moving during the charging process. An integrated lock ensures that the plug cannot simply be removed during charging. Furthermore, the battery management system automatically adapts itself to the charge capacity of the charging station.
Monique Blokpoel, Senior Innovation Officer at Eneco: “This has taken Eneco two steps further in the standardisation of the NRGSPOT. With the European standard for charging stations (IEC 61851CE), the socket standard and the public transport smart card used for identification and payment, the NRGSPOT integrates seamlessly with the existing developments in the area of electric transportation.”
This development is part of Eneco’s sustainable strategy to contribute to the accelerated introduction of electric transportation during the coming years. It is Eneco’s ambition to purchase 500 electric commercial vans within 4 years.
